Custom products don’t always come in right the first time. Many people touch an order. In my office, my assistant prepares orders and I approve them. Then they get sent to the vendor or workroom. Depending on who the vendor is, they may process the order directly or it may then go to the manufacturer, who then process it. Once in production the people making the product interpret the order. Then it gets shipped and delivered.
At each step there's a potential for error. We try very hard to avoid all errors on our end and to work with vendors who make the fewest possible errors, and help to fix the ones that happen.
Once as my drapery workroom was clipping the threads from a finished drape, the stitcher slipped with the scissors and cut the fabric. Normally, this would not be a problem, we would simply order more goods. This time was different. The fabric was discontinued and there was no stock available. Replacing with a similar fabric not an option.
I called to vendor to inquire if the fabric was available anywhere retail. We were able to purchase additional yardage from Italy, believe it or not. The client got their sheers and never knew of the issues we encountered along the way.
The secret's out now!
