I find that most design choices come easily to me, even the very smallest details.
But every once in a blue moon, I get stuck and when I get stuck, it never ceases to amaze me that it means it's not the right thing.
I am working on a living room. We have chosen an absolutely stunning fabric for the drapery—a persimmon-colored silk with gold scroll work running through. The fabric is rich and stunning.
Since we have chosen deep walnut stains for most of the wood finishes in the room, I thought that we'd do the same for the window hardware. But I couldn't find the right thing. I looked at finish samples. I looked through catalogues for my tried and true vendors. I considered new ones as well. Nothing seemed to be just right.
But then I remembered: when I get stuck, it's because I need to think a new. I brought finish samples and the fabric to the clients to see how different options would "feel." Dark wood felt too heavy. I needed to go light, a gold, similar to the scroll work.
Here's the finish and the fabric from an earlier post.
