If you cram your home too tight with stuff, or if your belongings are the wrong size for the rooms, your space will feel uncomfortable, no matter how beautiful your décor is.
Recently, I had a client who was not happy with how her dining room felt. Her center entrance colonial had 7 and a half foot ceilings and the room was not palatial. Her inherited dining room chairs had a 40" back height, which is high. I felt they were too high for the room's dimensions. As an experiment, we placed the kitchen chairs around the dining room table to see and feel first-hand if the back height was the culprit.
What a difference this made! Sure enough, with lower backs, the room immediately felt larger, more open, and more welcoming. We decided to order new chairs. The room is now a delightful place to share time with friends and family.
